A Teller's Tale
Members of the Nelson Storytelling Guild explain why they tell stories, why storytelling matters, and why it's important to keep stories alive in today's fast moving world.
Watch it now! (3 mins)
Lots of reasons, and this depends on who you ask. Maybe you want to engage with others, or carry on a folktale or myth that has been passed down for generations, or maybe you want to improve your public speaking. Every storyteller has a different reason (and likely a story with it) for wanting to share.
What kinds of stories do we tell?
All kinds! Folktales, personal stories, myths, legends, historical tales, poems, songs... whatever kind of story pops up is the perfect story to tell!
Who can tell a story?
Everyone is a storyteller! We welcome all stories, from beginner to expert. This is an open and casual environment and all levels are welcome. It's a perfect place to try out storytelling with a captive audience, or try something new for the more experienced storytellers.
Why do we tell stories?
I'm shy... Do I have to tell a story?
Absolutely not! Come and listen and share space with us. Let the story enter the depths of your soul. Most storytellers want an audience... a storyteller without an audience is just talking to themselves! But if you decide to give it a try, we would be delighted to hear from you!
